Refugees and migration

Office for the integration of refugees into work

Our specialist office for the integration into work of refugees and asylum-seekers in Heidelberg and the Rhine-Neckar Region (Fachstelle für die berufliche Integration von Flüchtlingen und Asylsuchenden in Heidelberg und der Rhein-Neckar-Region) offers initial advice and referral services as well as comprehensive information for asylum-seekers and refugees about opportunities for their integration into the German labour market. The office is funded by the Baden-Wurttemberg regional Ministry of Social Affairs and Integration.

We will also provide information about the recognition of professional and educational qualifications acquired in your country of origin—so that you will know if and how your skills may be useful for your working life and career. In any issues concerning and relevant to the recognition of your qualifications we collaborate closely with all municipal and district-level agencies involved in social work with refugees and migrants, harnessing their support.

Our advice service — who it is for

Our specialist office addresses

  • advice services for refugees
  • advice services for migrants
  • agencies specialising in social work with refugees and migrants
  • other specialist advice services, voluntary groups and the so-called “Asylarbeitskreise” (volunteer NGOs supporting refugees) in the Rhine-Neckar Region
  • refugees and asylum-seekers in Heidelberg and the Rhine-Neckar Region

Our support — where else we get involved if needed

Our work supports the initial reception facilities located in the Rhine-Neckar Region (refugee registration centres, initial reception facilities on both regional, ie federal Land, and federal level) and collaborate closely with the independent advice service on social welfare and asylum process matters of the federal Land level welfare organisations.

Our services in this area include

  • information (group) events for asylum-seekers, staff, and volunteers
  • information materials, initial and referral advice service (Federal Office for Employment, local social work with refugees, advice and information about assisted voluntary return, points of first contact and centres of competence, “Asylarbeitskreise”, staff and voluntary support etc.)

For volunteer networks, NGOs supporting refugees (the “Asylarbeitskreise”) and any other action groups we

  • organise information (group) events for asylum-seekers and for volunteers
  • provide information materials, initial and referral advice

In close collaboration with stakeholders in agencies specialising in social work with refugees and migrants, we provide temporary and secondary residential centres in urban and rural districts with

  • information (group) events for asylum-seekers, staff, and volunteers
  • information materials, initial and referral advice (Federal Office for Employment, local social work with refugees, advice and information about assisted voluntary return, points of first contact and centres of competence, “Asylarbeitskreise”, staff and voluntary support etc.)
  • single-case social care and psycho-social support during the process of integrating recognised refugees into work (firms and institutions employing apprentices, regular employers, securing a person's livelihood etc.)

We also offer individual case advice services—in co-operation with and supplementing other existing specialist advice services for refugees at the Diakonisches Werk Heidelberg (the social welfare organisation of the Protestant church in Heidelberg). This kind of advice is about

  • providing clients with information about their legal status and explaining and clarifying it
  • exploring prospects of staying and of assisted voluntary return and sustainable reintegration
  • offering help with the authorities
  • providing information and support in cases of personal problems or worries
  • eferring to other support services and contacts
